A sound bath is an immersive experience of sound designed to reach you on physical, mental, and spiritual levels.
-
This style of guided meditation is an improvised expansion of sound, where participants sit or lie in a comfortable position, while “bathing” in harmonic and dissonant notes of instruments such as crystal singing bowls, chimes, and gongs.
-
The sounds and vibrations activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes cellular regeneration and stress release. The music’s calming unpredictability helps to guide your brain waves into Theta— a deeply relaxed state where physical/mental/spiritual healing can take place. The intention of a sound bath is to release energy and thoughts that are no longer helpful, and shifting you towards a more positive and mindful state of being.
-
Studies have found that sound baths can help with stress, fatigue, depression, pain, sleep, and muscle tension.
People often report entering a dreamlike state during the sound bath itself and feeling more at peace and connected to the self in the hours and days afterwards.
-
Sound baths have been found to be effective even in very short lengths, but the benefits grow with additional time as you can sink into a deeper state of consciousness.
Our sound baths are two hours. We spend a few minutes at the beginning doing some guided grounding and breath work and then transition into 90 minutes of sound. The final 20 minutes are yours to spend in whatever way feels good: stretching, meditating, sipping tea, hydrating, or whatever else you need in the moment.

The primary instruments Jenelle plays during a sound bath are crystal singing bowls, gongs, and chimes. As it is an improvised experience, she will occasionally add other instruments and vocalizations, depending on the space and other factors.
Some sounds will be cohesive and pleasing to the ear, and others will sound discordant or even jarring. This is intentional, as different reverberations have unique effects on the body and mind.
-
Try to drink extra water leading up to the sound bath so you are well hydrated. Wear loose-fitting clothing. Remember that you won’t be moving around much, so you might wear an extra layer to make sure you’re not cold.
-
Bring whatever will help you to be comfortable! This often includes a yoga mat, a pillow, a blanket, cozy socks, and/or an eye mask. You will be sitting or lying on the ground for an extended period of time, so bring whatever you need to be as comfortable as possible.
If the sound bath you’re attending is held in a space that provides some of these materials, such as yoga mats, we will let you know that in advance.

In short, it’s Jenelle’s experience, perspective, and skills.
When Jenelle isn’t facilitating sound baths, she’s coaching CrossFit classes. As a result, she is incredibly attuned to the needs of our bodies and to the depth and importance of the mind-body connection. Jenelle makes intentional space in her life for meditation and yoga, and she regularly attends sound baths hosted by others in order to experience the benefits of sound healing for herself.
In addition to the instruments she plays during a sound bath, Jenelle is skilled at playing the guitar, drums, and piano. She also studied music theory in college, and brings this rich understanding of music and sound into every sound bath.
